Meet the Chef
Born and raised in the city of Chennai, Payal has a Bachelors degree in Culinary Arts from the reputed Culinary Academy of India, Hyderabad voted among the top ten best schools in Asia. Three years later, she joined The Oberoi Group of Hotels & Resorts with her first job at the swanky hotel The Trident, Hyderabad.
To hone her skills further she joined the prestigious Oberoi Centre of Learning & Development, New Delhi. Through this program, she traveled to many cities in India to train, gain hands-on experience & refine her skills.
Post the program she was posted as the Junior Sous Chef at The Oberoi Udaivilas, voted recently as “The World’s Best Hotel” by Conde Nast Traveller and she also lead the Specialty Indian restaurant, Udaimahal.
Having completed five fulfilling years with The Oberoi Group, Payal is back in her hometown to create a unique customised dining experience for the people of Chennai through her latest venture "The Gourmet Gig".

Payal Rajankar is a truly creative chef. Her passion for culinary arts and flair for presentation is beautifully matched with the flavours she subtly mixes to explode on your palate. Her penchant for constantly innovating with all kinds of cuisines and drawing up interesting menus to fit your requirements is indeed most refreshing. With her experience from the Oberoi and a strong and capable lineage of GoldLine behind her, she is undoubtedly a valuable entrant to this field of personalized catering. Professionalism with dollops of personal care and finesse are her trademark.
I wanted to do something nice for my boyfriend for his birthday, so I asked Chef Payal to come over and help me make a home-made three-course dinner for him. She went all out, brought all the equipment and ingredients, designed a great menu and even helped me decorate my house so that it looked perfect! The whole experience was so much fun and educational and the dinner was absolutely delicious! Chef Payal is an amazing chef who is truly excited by food. If you ever need help in the culinary department, be it for a fancy dinner at home, to a party for 20, she’s the one to call!
